Who We Are
Cornerstone General Contractors is founded on our core values of Integrity, Communication, Diligence & Drive, and Others-Focus. Our mission is to be a blessing to our team and clients, and to add value in all that we do. To that end, we are dedicated to providing exceptional customer service, care, and quality work throughout all types of projects. Our team is devoted to growth and development, and we actively look for ways to increase our value for our clients as well as training and development for our team. Financially, we focus on keeping our overhead as low as possible, to maintain the value added to our clients’ projects via lower markups and overall lower costs while still maintaining a quality profit margin so that we can be around for years to come, to continue serving our valued clients on new projects and ensuring that all warranty and ongoing maintenance is not neglected.
What We Do
As a general contractor, we do not specialize in a certain trade or type of construction, but have professionals on our team and throughout our network of trade partners who are trained, experienced, and competent in a wide variety of project types to deliver the best value and experience for our project owners. Our process includes estimation and value engineering, scheduling and project management, a dedicated site supervisor for every project, and a competent team to handle any issues that may arise throughout the construction process. We self-perform selective tasks and partner with other qualified local vendors for service in areas where a trade-specific certification or experience is needed. Our portfolio ranges from residential full-scale renovations and additions to commercial new construction and renovation including restaurants, houses of worship, office and industrial, and multi-family.
The Cornerstone Story
Our story starts right here in Christiansburg, Va, where our founder and CEO grew up working with his father, a local contractor, on light remodeling, repair, and general maintenance around the New River Valley, with a major focus on off-campus apartments, condominium maintenance, and property management, alongside a premier local property management firm. We started as Cornerstone Home Improvement in 2014, and grew through the following years, eventually incorporating and forming Cornerstone General Contractors, LLC, in August 2018. Like many other contractors, we struggled with staffing, finances, and scaling, along with other growing pains, through the end of 2020, culminating in a crisis of identity and mission after surviving the first year of the pandemic economy, which has impacted the construction sector in diverse and unprecedented ways. This drove our leadership team to define our core values and mission, and to find and develop a wonderful group of mentors and peers to help us overcome the challenges we faced as a growing company. Our team rallied around this mission and we have been blessed by success and traction over the past two years in financial stability, personnel growth, and clarity of vision, allowing us to serve our clients better. Our customer base has demonstrated tremendous resilience in the face of uncertainty surrounding the pandemic and its economic effects, and we are thrilled to be a part of this vibrant and thriving community in the New River Valley. We look forward to exciting years ahead partnering with our subcontractor network, local vendors and suppliers, and our project owners to continue to revitalize and add value to our community.
